Tasked with envisioning the future, Macy’s quietly tapped several key architects around the City to take on the daunting task of reimagining one of the most iconic department stores in the world, while keeping it fully operational.  The restrictions and precedent helped to focus the project needs on connecting two high-functioning transportation hubs along 34th St.: Penn Station and Herald Square.  Typologies range from a new full-height atrium with subway passage to a new park, hotel and office space at the existing roof level.  Much debate over how to keep such a well-known icon from being consumed by the glass city. This was an opportunity to showcase some of my more advanced presentation skills.
